    Histology - Semi-Automatic Rotary Microtome 0.5-100µm

The Semi-Automatic Rotary Microtome 0.5-100 µm is an essential tool in histology, designed to make precise and fine cuts of biological materials such as tissues and samples, for the purpose of preparing thin sections for observation and study under the microscope. These cuts, known as sections, are extremely thin, making them ideal for sample preparation.

The equipment incorporates a stepper motor for precise and reliable control of automatic sample advancement and retraction, as well as a user-friendly touchscreen to control and select cutting and operation parameters. In addition to its precision, this microtome stands out for its robust housing and wide base, ensuring stability during use.
    1 micron is one-thousandth of a millimeter: 1 µm = 0.001 mm.

Technical Information about the Semi-Automatic Rotary Microtome:

The cutting thickness is adjustable from 0.5 to 100 microns, with the following intervals:
    — 0.5 to 2 µm in steps of 0.5 µm
    — 10 to 20 µm in 2 µm steps
    — 20 to 50 µm in 5 µm steps
    — 50 to 100 µm in 10 µm steps.

Roughing thickness is adjustable between 5 and 500 microns, with the following intervals:
    — 5 to 100 µm in 10 µm intervals.
    — 100 to 200 µm in 20 µm intervals
    — 200 to 500 µm in steps of 50 µm.

Roughing thickness refers to the thickness of material that is removed or abraded from the sample during the cutting process, i.e. a surface layer is removed from the sample to obtain a more uniform surface suitable for more precise and thinner cuts. The grinding thickness value indicates the amount of material that is removed in each pass to adjust the sample to the cutting conditions required for analysis under the microscope.

The touch screen allows the user to set and control parameters such as motorised sample advance and retract, cut thickness, grinding thickness and cut count.

The feed is done by means of a smooth handwheel with an ergonomic handle. It is easy to control during the cutting process and the angle of blade orientation can be varied from 0 to 14°, so that the blade can be tilted with respect to the sample. It has a macro feed system on the left side in the lowered position.
Adjusting the angle of blade orientation is important to optimise the quality of histological sections. By changing the angle of the blade, the way the cut is executed can be adapted and the accuracy of the sections obtained can be improved. Depending on the hardness, characteristics of the sample material and the type of analysis to be performed subsequently, the angle of the blade orientation can be varied to obtain the best results.

The equipment is supplied with two blade holders for high and low profile disposable blades, both with folding finger guard to cover the cutting edge during work breaks.

The blade holder base is compatible with disposable blades and has a highly precise lateral adjustment mechanism to utilize the full cutting edge of the blade. The base can also be moved forwards and backwards and has a system for adjusting the angle of orientation of the cutting edge.

Includes standard specimen clamp and universal cassette clamp; compatible for plastic foils. Both are easily interchangeable. The orientation system of the gripper ensures an exact and precise orientation of the sample surface with respect to the cutting edge.

It is equipped with a safety system to protect against the risk of cutting: hinged blade holder with finger guard and hand wheel lock for when changing the blade.
