Laboratory Application
The first step is to separate the molecules (usually nucleic acids or proteins) according to their size and electrical charge. For this, the electrophoresis technique is used. Samples are loaded onto a gel and an electric field is applied. The molecules migrate through the gel towards the positive electrode thanks to their negative charge, and are separated according to their size: small molecules migrate faster and further than large molecules.
After separating the molecules, they need to be visualized for analysis. This can be done using an ultraviolet transilluminator. By staining the sample gel, the dye makes the cells visible and makes them visible and easy to photograph. Researchers can then observe and document the results of their experiments.
