Zuzi Series 158/358 Epi-Fluorescence Microscope: Advanced Analysis in Biology and Diagnostics

The Zuzi epi-fluorescence microscope enables the observation of structures that emit light after stimulation by short-wavelength radiation, a phenomenon known as fluorescence. This property is characteristic of molecules such as chlorophyll, collagen, and lignin, as well as synthetic fluorochromes widely used in biomedical research, including FITC, DAPI, and TRITC.

Main Applications

This model incorporates five spectral configurations that allow compatibility with a wide range of fluorochromes, supporting key techniques in advanced microscopy:

  • Fluorescent staining: enables specific identification of DNA, RNA and other intracellular structures, essential in cytochemistry.
  • Immunofluorescence: a method combining specific antibodies with fluorochromes for precise tissue labelling, commonly used in pathology and autoimmune disease diagnostics.

In this technique, illumination follows the same optical axis as the objective, causing the specimen to emit fluorescence. The system relies on a dedicated optical setup consisting of:

  • Excitation filter (EX): selects the wavelength that activates the fluorochrome.
  • Dichroic mirror (DM): reflects the excitation light toward the sample and transmits the emitted fluorescence.
  • Emission filter (BA): isolates the fluorescence signal for viewing or image capture.

This system enhances image clarity, reduces optical noise, and improves sharpness.

Fields of Application

The Zuzi Series 158/358 microscope is a robust and precise instrument for demanding environments, including:

  • Cell and molecular biology (tissue marker identification and cellular process monitoring).
  • Distinction between normal and pathological cells.
  • Infectious disease studies (e.g. tuberculosis, malaria).
  • Genetic diagnostics using FISH in research and clinical environments.

Key Technical Features of the Zuzi Series 158/358 Microscope

Developed to meet the demands of fluorescence microscopy in professional environments, this model combines infinity-corrected optics, high-precision mechanics and specialised illumination systems. Its robust frame and wide, stable base ensure safe and reliable use in biology labs, cellular research, and clinical diagnostics.

The trinocular head features adjustable inclination, interpupillary distance (50–75 mm) and dioptre correction for ergonomic and customised observation.

The sextuple revolving nosepiece includes a set of objectives optimised for fluorescence, while the wide-field WF eyepieces offer a broad, clear view of the study area.

The double-layer mechanical stage with coaxial controls allows precise movement along both axes. The illumination system includes a dimmable halogen lamp for transmitted light and a high-pressure mercury lamp for epi-fluorescence, both with adjustable centring and intensity control. The power supply includes an integrated usage timer for enhanced safety.

It features a full Köhler illumination system for transmitted light with field and aperture diaphragms, and an Abbe condenser with upper sliding lens and filter holder.

The interchangeable filter turret allows accurate selection of EX/DM/BA combinations, and the incident beam lock lever enables switching between transmitted and fluorescence modes without turning off the mercury lamp.

Also included is an additional 12 V / 50 W halogen lamp with adjustable intensity and centring system. The mercury lamp is connected to a power supply with a built-in usage timer.

The universal power input (100–240 V AC, 50–60 Hz) makes it suitable for international installations.

An advanced and professional solution for fluorescence microscopy, ideal for research laboratories, cell biology, and specialised diagnostics.
